I discovered an artist, once again thanks to XM Ethel, named Mika (Meeka) from the UK. His first album, Life in Cartoon, will be out in early Feb. but the single Grace Kelly dropped in the US this past Tuesday. Really interesting and very unique to say the least. At first you think, god this is some stupid music, but then it just grows on you. He makes music that no one else can copy, kinda like Beck. He has this vibe like he is channeling Freddy Mercury or something. You at first think he is just trying to ride the same train that the Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters took, but then you realize, nope this is way different! Real catchy dance music with a slight bubble gum tilt, but damn it is so cool. It is so much fun to listen to, yet you don't feel like you need to go take a bath or are selling out when you are listening to it(you know the way listening to 94.1ZBQ makes you feel). I am really digging this guy! Mark my word, Life in Cartoons will be a major album of 2007!

I am truely concerned with the state of many species on the planet. Habitat destruction, pollution, climate change are destroying species at a rapid rate. I found an organization that is concerned with species they are tagging as "EDGE", or Evolutionary Distinct and Globally Endangered. These species "are truly one of a kind. If they disappear there will be nothing similar left on the planet." They have established a top 10 of EDGE species, but there are actually hundreds on the list
-Yangtze River dolphin;
-Attenborough’s long-beaked echidna, an egg-laying mammal;
-Hispaniolan solenodon, a venomous shrew-like creature;
-Bactrian camel;
-Pygmy hippopotamus;
-Slender Loris, a shy, nocturnal primate with gigantic eyes;
-Hirola antelope, known as the “four-eye antelope” as their preorbital glands look like a second set of eyes
-Golden-rumped elephant shrew, which is the size of a small rabbit;
-Bumblebee bat, possibly the world’s smallest mammal;
-Long-eared jerboa, a mouse-like animal with the largest ear-to-body ratio of any mammal.
Take a look at the EDGE web site or google these animals. You might learn something interesting about a creature you never even knew existed. The best thing you can do is support concervation efforts in the US and world wide. Look what concervation efforts did for the American Bald Eagle. Also look up some endangered species and show them to your kids. When they are adults, they will have even less species than we do!

Wow, this has been a long week! Finally I'm on the downhill slide! Things have been SO stressful at home. We are finally going to be without the extra puppy, Lucky. I am going to hate to see the cute little guy go, but he is becoming a burden. My sweetheart puppy, Izzy Bee has bronchitis and I hate to see her coughing and not feeling good. Thankfully my husband went back to work yesterday. He has been off work for 4 months due to a shoulder injury and he was getting quiet down that he couldn't work. We now have a friend staying with us who just had his ACL replaced. He is such a good friend and we are his family here in Demopolis, since all his family lives elsewhere. It seems like lately the housework never seems to end-washing dishes, cleaning house, washing clothes, cooking supper. Wow, I've been tired lately. Work has been just work, some days zip by, but this week, every day has drug by.
Maybe I can have some fun this weekend and drink some good wine. I am also planning on making a caramel machiato(sp)aka-coffee cheese cake. Cooking lately has been my stress reducer. I am starting to enjoy cooking, I get it honest from my Mom and Dad, they are both fantastic cooks.
I need to start running more frequently again. If I do that, it will get my mind off all the stress in my life. I am going to have to do that next week, or I don't know how I'll get through another week like this!

Ok boys and girls...As many of you know I am a music freak! I listen to just about anything on the face of the earth. In fact I got really messed with this morning for having a Robert Goulet Christmas song on my Ipod. I also listen to a bunch of stuff that isn't played on the radio or just not on the radio around here.
A new band that I am falling in love with is a British band called The Kooks. There first album, Inside In/Inside Out, has sold several million copies in Great Britain alone. The song that I love is Naive...it is kind of a jam band, raggae, indie pop mix that is really catchy.
Another band that has gotten my attention lately is The Fratellis. There EP, Flathead is out in the US, the LP will not drop until sometime in the spring. This band has your pretty much typical "British" sound, but great rockin tunes!
A band whose album has been out a while is She Wants Revenge, great alternative, elctronic music. Pretty dang cool.....Also, I can't wait for the new Shins album to come out....it is going to be AWESOME!!!!!

I have recently been bitten with what I am calling the "Everest Bug" Last year I read the book "Into Thin Air" and just became amazed with the mystic of Mt. Everest. I have always been a little outdoorsey, but lately the hubbie and I have done more and more camping/hiking and stuff like that. What sucks the most is whatever we do, we have to DRIVE for HOURS to do it! If only we lived in Colorado, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, or Maine. But the whole point of this is, I want to start climing mountains-rock climbing, ice climbing, alpine mountaineering-stuff like that. I've been doing some research into some beginners/intro to climbing classes and I've set my goal to finish one of those classes. It might be next year or the next, but I am going to do it! So the conditioning begins. I am already set to start training for a 10k this spring, so I am well on my way!
